About

My name is Taylor McCourt and I am currently enrolled in Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops BC. I am in my third year of my bachelor of science, in which I plan to major in biology. I hope to graduate at Thompson Rivers with my undergrad degree and continue my studies in a occupational therapy program. Being able to help people through rehabilitation has always been an important part of my life, and I believe that is why I have chosen the career path I have. There has always been an interest in the study of mental health in Canada for many reasons, but most importantly because my grandfather had suffered from mental illness all of his life. Picking the topic of mental health in Canada for my research project was an easy decision. I think the stereotypes and biased view against those that suffer from mental illness have created a silence in society that must be broken, and that is what I intended to do for my research project.  It is time to talk about the history of mental illness so we can learn and grow from our past.
